Kadavu Island, Fiji
Refined by Nature — Shaped by Culture
World-Class Diving Just Minutes from Shore
At Papageno Resort & Dive, scuba diving is at the heart of the experience—drawing divers from around the world to Kadavu Island. With more than a dozen dive sites just 5–10 minutes away and access to over 100 sites across the Kadavu Archipelago, Papageno is recognised as one of Fiji's premier dive resort destinations.
Expect vibrant soft-coral reefs, dramatic drop-offs, an explorable shipwreck, and seasonal manta ray encounters—all in an uncrowded, eco-focused setting.
Whether you're taking your first breath underwater or logging advanced dives, Papageno Resort & Dive offers unforgettable experiences guided by local experts who know these reefs intimately.
Exceptional Local Dive Sites at Rooper Reef
Papageno Resort & Dive is uniquely positioned on Rooper Reef, our home reef and a designated Marine Protected Area. Several outstanding dive sites sit just minutes from the resort:

Chambers
Dramatic underwater topography with dense marine life
Crossroads
Dynamic currents, schooling fish, and occasional larger pelagics
Group Tube
Rock formations, coral structures, and rich macro life
Pacific Voyager Wreck
Kadavu's only wreck dive; a 63-metre tanker intentionally sunk in 1994, now a thriving artificial reef at 30+ metres
These sites are rich in reef fish, nudibranchs, and invertebrates, with regular sightings of reef sharks and turtles. The variety and density of marine life make them ideal for both wide-angle and macro photography.
Dive site selection is based on daily conditions, diver experience, and safety — special requests accommodated whenever possible.

Great Astrolabe Reef
Approximately one scenic hour east takes you to renowned Great Astrolabe Reef diving, the third-largest barrier reef in the world and one of the least trafficked.
This vast reef system delivers dramatic passages, pinnacles, caves, tunnels, and cleaning stations—particularly around the iconic Alacrity Rocks.
Signature Great Astrolabe Dive Sites
On rare occasions, experienced divers on advanced sites may also observe hammerhead sharks.

Eagle Rock
Pinnacles, fast-water passages, eagle rays, and snapper schools
Naiqoro Passage
Marine sanctuary with soft corals, groupers, and pelagic action

Giant Manta Ray Encounters at Bulia Island
The Bulia Island Giant Manta Ray Encounter is one of the most extraordinary ways to experience giant manta rays in Kadavu. On high tides, giant manta rays glide over a shallow 2-metre (6-ft) site, often appearing in groups.
While manta rays are found throughout Kadavu, Bulia Island offers the most consistent sightings. Conditions are checked locally before each trip, and encounters—while never guaranteed—are frequently spectacular.

These trips typically include:
Snorkelling with manta rays
Picnic lunch on a nearby remote island
Optional fishing for lunch
A perfect blend of wildlife, adventure, and untouched island beauty.
